PRESS RELEASE: Cast Announced for the New York Regional Premiere of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME

Cast Announced for the New York Regional Premiere of

THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME

at White Plains Performing Arts Center
December 22 – January 14

The White Plains Performing Arts Center (WPPAC) is proud to the present the first New York professional production of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME onstage from December 22 – January 14.

From the Oscar-winning composer team Alan Menken (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid) & Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin) comes a lushly scored retelling of Victor Hugo’s (author of Les Miserables) epic story of love, acceptance, and what it means to be a hero. The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the Disney film’s Academy Award-nominated score.

The musical begins at the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be “Out There,” observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.

A sweeping score (accompanied by a 15 piece orchestra & 30 person choir) and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical.

The cast features the talents of Anna Baker (Ensemble), Matthew Billman (Captain Phoebus de Martin), Melanie Burg (Ensemble), Bobby Cassell (Quasimodo), David Thomas Cronin (Saint Aphrodisius), Jenna Dallacco (Esmeralda), Jarrad Biron Green (Clopin Trouillefou), Chris Guzman (Lieutenant Frederic Charlus), Katelyn Lauria (Madam), Joey Nelan (Ensemble), Rebecca Skowron (Ensemble), Dustin Harris Smith (Jehan Frollo), James Smith (Father Dupin), Cecilia Snow (Florika), Anna Laura Strider (Ensemble), Esteban Suero (Ensemble) and James Zannelli (Dom Claude Frollo).

From musical theater to Americana to R&B and gospel, these performers will chronicle personal journeys, pay tribute to legendary artists, and showcase the breadth of creativity, emotion, and expression found throughout American song.

The season opens in the iconic Appel Room on January 24, 2018, with Grammy Award winner John Paul White (The Civil Wars) performing his lyric-driven Southern gothic folk. And in March, the series will return to the Rose Theater for the first time since 2005 for a pair of special evenings with Oscar-, Emmy-, and Grammy Award–winning songwriter Randy Newman(March 26) and Rosanne Cash(March 27), a four-time Grammy Award winner, best-selling author, and activist.

Composers and lyricists are a centerpiece of this season, as Tony winners Stew & Heidi Rodewald (Passing Strange¸ The Total Bent) reflect on two decades of music-making through the prism of their self-described “Afro-Baroque cabaret” (Feb. 7); Matt Ray pays homage to Hoagy Carmichael with singer Kat Edmonson(Jan. 27); composers Scott Frankel&Michael Korie (Grey Gardens, War Paint) are joined by stars Kelli O’Hara and Julian Ovenden (Feb. 17); and downtown legend Justin Vivian Bond weaves the trials of Karen Carpenter’s complicated life into a modern context using her music (Feb. 15).

The rising Maryland-born, Liverpool-based soul and R&B singer-songwriter Jalen N’Gonda will also perform a free show on February 1 in the David Rubenstein Atrium.

“Each season of American Songbook juxtaposes the popular music of our time while honoring that of the past and anticipating the voices of the future. From the world of Broadway to television to the backroads of Alabama to Duluth, Minnesota, this year we are covering considerable ground,” said Jane Moss, Lincoln Center’s Ehrenkranz Artistic Director. “Each of these artists moves us with their creativity, personal stories, and, for many of them, their much-needed humor.”

Hailed for its expansive embrace of American songwriting spanning centuries and geography, American Songbook is based at three venues at Lincoln Center. The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center, with its floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Columbus Circle, hosts cabaret-style performances that include table seating, close proximity to the performers, and an incomparable view of the Manhattan skyline. In addition, the series will return to the Rose Theater, which maintains an intimate atmosphere as the largest of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s performance spaces, and the David Rubenstein Atrium, a vibrant indoor public commons offering hundreds of free programs each year.

“PGIM, the global investment management businesses of Prudential Financial, is proud to be the lead supporter of such an innovative concert series as Lincoln Center’s 2018 American Songbook,” said David Hunt, President and CEO of PGIM.“The array of performances allows Lincoln Center audiences to celebrate the diverse aspects of the American experience through music, and we are honored to be a part of it for the fifth year in a row.”

DEREK DELGAUDIO’S

ANNOUNCES THIRD EXTENSION

OF ITS SMASH-HIT NEW YORK PREMIERE ENGAGEMENT

NOW PLAYING THROUGH MAY 6, 2018

AT UNION SQUARE’S DARYL ROTH THEATRE

NEW BLOCK OF TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW AT TICKETMASTER.COM

(New York, NY)IN & OF ITSELF, the smash-hit show created and performed by three-time Academy of Magical Arts Award winner Derek DelGaudio (Nothing to Hide) and directed by four-time Emmy Award winner Frank Oz (Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Star Wars), has announced a third extension to the show’s New York Premiere engagement at the Daryl Roth Theatre in Union Square. IN & OF ITSELF, which opened to resounding critical acclaim on April 12, 2017,will now play an additional eighteen weeks, through May 6, 2018.

Produced by Werner Entertainment, Tony Award winners Gary Goddard & Forbes Candlish, Prediction Productions and five-time Emmy & Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris, IN & OF ITSELF began previews on April 5, setting a box office record for the highest advance sales in the history of the Daryl Roth Theatre. Even amidst the most crowded theater season in over twenty years, IN & OF ITSELF has grossed over $3 million (in a 150-seat theater) and continually sold-out performances—prompting three extensions to the original ten-week run, now taking the show to fifty-seven weeks.

A mysterious story is deciphered and the illusion of one’s own identity is revealed in Derek DelGaudio’sIN & OF ITSELF. A modern allegory, IN & OF ITSELF explores new ways of seeing the unseeable, as memories from yesterday, inexplicable events witnessed today and secrets imagined for tomorrow are blended together, creating a perpetual paradox of a show. Glenn Kaino (2004 Whitney Biennial, U.S. Representative to the 13th Cairo Biennale) serves as Artistic Producer of the production, which also features Original Music by Devo frontmanMark Mothersbaugh, and Production Design by A.BANDIT

“Wonder is a rare commodity these days,” raved The New York Times, which declared the show a Critic’s Pick. “Derek DelGaudio, the phenomenally talented creator and star of the stealthily entrancing IN & OF ITSELF, is a magician, a raconteur, a conceptual artist and conceivably a mind reader… And his show works. Beautifully. Tenderly. Astonishingly. The finale allows Mr. DelGaudio a momentary connection to any audience member who proves willing. To watch is to see audience members each receive a private benediction and leave the theater, heads aswirl.” Time Out New York gives the show “Four Stars!”; Vogue says, “In the astonishing IN & OF ITSELF, Derek DelGaudio performs some of the most heart-stoppingly wondrous pieces of magic I’ve ever seen;” and The NewYorker calls it, “a thoughtful piece of theatre that makes inspired use of DelGaudio’s skills…it will linger in the mind and leave ample room for wonder.” The Huffington Post hails the show as “nothing short of remarkable,” and Entertainment Weekly describes DelGaudio as an “undeniably compelling storyteller” with “jaw-dropping” talent. TheaterManiadeclared IN & OF ITSELF a “wildly impressive” show that “elevates magic to a fine art.”

DelGaudio is a writer, performance artist, and three-time Academy of Magical Arts Award-winning magician. He wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed show Nothing to Hide, which played sold-out engagements in LA and NYC. He was selected to be the Artist in Residence for Walt Disney Imagineering and co-founded, along with Kaino, the performance-art collective, A.BANDIT. In April 2017, DelGaudio became one of the youngest artists to receive the Academy of Magical Arts’ “Magician of the Year” award, joining the ranks of such luminaries as David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, David Blaine and Ricky Jay.

Frank Oz is a four-time Emmy Award winner, whose directing work includes such feature films as Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, In & Out, The Score and Death at a Funeral.  As a performer, he has voiced such iconic characters as Yoda in the Star Wars franchise, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear on “The Muppet Show,” and Grover and Cookie Monster on“Sesame Street.” Oz is a recipient of The Art Director’s Guild Award, The Comedy Award, Saturn Lifetime Achievement Award and George Foster Peabody Award, among others.

IN & OF ITSELF played a limited engagement at Geffen Playhouse in the spring and summer of 2016, where it extended an unprecedented five times, and became their highest grossing show to date.

Tickets to IN & OF ITSELF are on sale at Ticketmaster.com. The performance schedule is Tuesday–Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 3pm & 8pm, and Sunday at 3pm & 7pm. There are no shows on Tuesday October 31, Thursday November 23, Sunday December 31 or Tuesday, January 2. There are added shows on Monday October 30 at 8pm, Monday November 20 at 8pm, and Wednesday January 3 at 3PM. On Wednesday December 27, Friday December 29, and Saturday December 30, performances are at 5PM and 9PM.

Created through the unique vision of vocalist and recording artist Rob Evan and Maestro Randall Craig Fleischer, a pioneer in the fusion of symphonic rock and world music, ROCKTOPIA delivers one-of-a-kind, spine-tingling musical arrangements with insanely talented lead vocalists, a 5-piece rock band, a choir of 40, and an orchestra of 20.

Developed over eight years, ROCKTOPIA is inspired by the idea that if Beethoven or Mozart were alive today, they would be modern-day rock stars. With extensive knowledge of both genres, Evan and Fleisher looked for common themes, potency, and emotional resonance in the songs before fusing them together to create explosive and moving new musical arrangements.

“We love both classical music and classic rock. There are so many parallels between the genres and between the “rock stars” who composed and performed them,” says Evan. “With Rocktopia, we want to break down barriers and any preconceived notion of what either genre is about – and electrify and inspire lovers of either musical styles with these completely original new pieces.”

The groundbreaking live concert will be performed by a celebrated, diverse array of rock, Broadway, and opera vocalists: Rob Evan (Broadway: Les Miserables, Jekyll & Hyde and more, multi-platinum recording artist); Chloe Lowery (Chris Botti, Yanni’sVoices);  Tony Vincent (Broadway: American Idiot, RENT, NBC’s “The Voice”); Kimberly Nichole (NBC’s “The Voice,” performs with Janelle Monae, Slash, Joe Walsh, The Heavy); and featuring Alyson Cambridge (The Merry Widow atThe Met, Madame Butterfly, La Boheme, Show Boat). The world-class musicians featured in the ROCKTOPIA band include Grammy and Emmy Award nominated violinist Máiréad Nesbitt (Celtic Woman, Lord of the Dance); acclaimed guitarist Tony Bruno (MD & guitar for Enrique Iglesias & Rihanna, “America’s Got Talent”); pianist Henry Aronson (MD/Conductor/keys for entire Broadway run of Rock of Ages, The Who’s Tommy); bass player Mat Fieldes (Joe Jackson’s Grammy winning album Symphony No. 1, the Gorillaz, Book of Mormon); and drummer Alex Alexander (David Bowie, Jimmy Cliff, Ritchie Blackmore). An additional 40-person choir and a 20-person orchestra enhance every performance of ROCKTOPIA.

An inaugural performance of the show, “Rocktopia: Live from Budapest” produced by Two Hands Entertainment/Jeff Rowland, was recorded in front of a live audience in June 2016 at the 19th century Hungarian State Opera House for PBS. It was performed with the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra with six vocalists, a five-piece rock band, the Hungarian State Opera Chorus, and the Jazz and More Choir. ROCKTOPIA has since toured over twenty cities in the United States, featuring local symphonies and choirs across the country.

ROCKTOPIA is produced by ROCKTOPIA Broadway LLC (William Franzblau, Executive Producer and Maggie Seidel-Laws, Associate Producer) in association with HUGHES WALL LLC.  Additional cast, creative team, and the New York orchestra and choirs that will join each performance, will be announced at a later date.
